He’s 18 years old but, when speaks, he seems to be older. Maybe ‘cause, to have a place in the world of Hollywood movies, he had to effort and get away from his beloved Texas and his family. However, he don’t lost his happyness and good vibe that are a feature in his personality and he transmitted that to his carácter Rocket Zara ticking off a new generation of Wildcats.

LUNA TEEN - Did you was afraid to be the new kid in High School Musical?

MATT – It was a little scary to be the new Zac. So I tried to make my character a little different, something never seen before and not the typical high school boy. More like a rockstar and far from the typical high school hysteria. My character isn’t a dancer, he’s a rockstar.

LT – The clothes that you wear in the final it’s fantastic!

M – That was a Kenny idea, the director. Originally I supposed to wear the Zac’s graduation suit; the same blazer, the sames pants and look more like Zac. And Kenny told me: “No, you can’t be like Troy, ‘cause Jimmy knows that it’s his time to shine” and he put me all that crazy stuffs.

LT – What did you learn of this movie and your friends?

M – I learned a lot because this is my first movie. How to work, how much you have to wait between shots. Be there maybe 20 hours and do nothing, be in our trailers and just have fun anyways. Go to practice skateboard with Zac, get us in troubles ‘cause the producers didn’t want that we fall and get hurt. But it was really fun. And he gave me a council, he told me that i have to trust in the people that we have around us because they were who help us to make that the things happens, that i have to let myself make friends and that i don’t read any blog or web site that say bad things about me. “They are people who wants to bring you down”. And Lucas gave me the best coouncil ever. I have 18 now, it’s a good time to go to the university, but i take a different way because acting it’s what i choose and now is my profession, it’s my life. And Lucas told me: “Live High School Musical like if it were your collage, there’s a lot of things that you don’t have to do and be part of Disney it’s something that it’s going to be beneficial in your future. It’s awsome to be on tours and you have to respect what you’re doing.” That was the best council that i’ve ever had.

LT – Did you wanna keep acting?

M – Oh, yes!, and i wanna direct too. I have a lot of friends in this Business, some are writers and they’re working in his scripts about a group of friends who are trying to have a normal life thanks to the movies. We have a lots of funny moments. We are 6 best friends trying to make comedies.

LT – It’s like the serie Entourage.

M – Yes, exactly, like a teen Entourage. It’s a comedy about to make movies and the teens versions of the most successfuls. One of my best friends, Andrew Caldwell, is like a 19 years old version of Chris Farley, he was in a movie called College with Drake Bell, he’s a really funny guy. Expected to have a place in the comedy World and he’s a really talented writer too. I have really good friends around me.

LT - Now everything is fun for you or also you are taking classes and preparing you for acting?

M – Oh no, i take classes too, there’s no day without i learn something new in my life; training myself it’s the best way to be a good actor. The comedy is easy for me, and I fell that I don’t have to work hard with that, so i wanna try some dramatic stuffs, i don’t wanna do it Only for the fame. I want a career like Shia LaBeouf, he starts like a Disney kid and after works in movies like Transformers, Paranoia, Eagle eye. And now he’s a movie star. I would be honored to have fourth of his career. Even Zac is breaking the steryotype, the kids love him but he shows that he can be a HSM face and work in movies like Me and Orson Wells, a very dramatic story. I think that’s very good to see young actors taking new challenges.

LT – You will try to sing too?

M – Sing, for me, it cames with the character, it was good. But now it’s a lot of pressure to make an album and be the next popstar. I feel like, if i make an album, it will be in the next 5 or 10 years, just to have my freedom and keep the lifestyle.

LT – It’s not usual an answer like that in the young actors.

M – Thank you, thank you. I want to be successful and a advancement career but not doing something that I feel to i have to do only for a moment, I don’t wanna be on top so fast, I wanna go step by step to the top, and stay there, i hope.

LT – But your character, Rocketman, is very funny…

M – (laughs) Thanks, thanks, everyday in the set was so fun, and have talks with Zac like: “Oh, what I gonna do tonight? I’m going to have to order some food”. (Acting like Rocketman) “Go Troy, what’s up man?!” (Screaming). We never take the rehearsals too serious and, if we were, were to have fun or see the quimic between our characters. And my room mate work in Seventeen again with Zac. I know him in a party and we came really good friends because he’s from Texas like me. The next three days I call him to go out and his voice wasn’t very good. So he told me that he was sick, “I can’t even drive” told me. His family wasn’t in the town, so i go to his house and i take him to the hospital, I brought his medicines, I took him to his house and I stay with him, Taking care of him for 4 day. And we are best friends since then. (laughs)

LT – What gonna say your friends from Texas when they see you in the movie?

M – (get serious) Unfortunately i start to recibe text messages from guys who I don’t see like 5 years ago, saying stuffs like: “Hey, I saw you in a Disney Channel commercial, how are you?, we should go out together!”. We use to be friends like 5 years ago and now that I’m famous they say: “yes, we are big friends…”. There’s a lot of people who change. It’s like see an exgirlfriend who broke my heart in Texas and now she send me messages saying “Hi, you are single? Bla bla bla…”. Oh Men! It’s fun to see that, but my true friends, my best friends, they call me and say to me: “Dude, congratulations, you did it! You are living your dream!”. That a true friend, who was with you when you was a normal kid, in your town, say that to you it’s like the heaven! My parents support me everytime, I have an older sister Stephanie, she’s awsome. She had a dream to become actress and, when we’re 10, she went to a convention where there’s goona be a lot of managers and agents. That was a bad experience.

Years later I get a phone call from an agency of LA, they told me that they gonna have some interviews with managers and if i want to get there. And, in the first interview they told me that want to represent me and if i Could move to the city (laughs). Then i have an 2 hours phone call with my dad and my mom. Beging them to let me move to LA, i told them that i had some interviews, that i was well reciebed and i was fresh. And they let me try for three weeks and, if nothing happens on that time, i would have to come back to Texas. And then, quickly, that 3 weeks turn to 3 years, I still here and i don’t even think in come back. My sister stills living in Texas studying with my dad and my mom move with LA with me. Was really hard. Fortunately my parents still together, they are married for 2 years and this 3 of separations make them strongers, they have more love to each other then before.

LT – You are thankful to them?

M – Oh, yes! I had sad moments, i called my dad crying and saying: “If you don’t want that i stay here, i will come back, i dont gonna put more pressure in home, you gave me the chance, if i don’t have luck, i’ll come back to home.” I come back for July 4th. and they gave me a character in Hannah Montana. And my dad told me: “Do that shoot and come back”. When i turn 18, mom come back to Texas and a weeks later i get the character in High School Musical. Now i can live by myself, pay my Bills and all that, and i grow up faster living in LA. That makes me feel really good, HSM appears in the right moment and everything took his place.

LT – Your house is a mess?

M – It’s hard, ‘cause my roommate is more disordered then me, he’s a little spoiled, our room isn’t the cleanest and we eat a lot of Fast food. But when our house is really really messy, it took us just 20 minutes to clean it up, so theres’ just 5 or 10 minutes to clean, but we’re not fanatics of the clean, we’re not crazy.

LT – And the girls? Did you have girlfriend?

M – Right now, I’m single. I have to travel to Salt Lake City to make the movie so i don’t have much time for a girlfriend. I hope to can find her after HSM filming shoot. In that case, I like the girl who get envolved on a relationship for me and not for my popularity.that’s the worst part of this. When i was in Salt Lake, without girlfriend, i enjoyed the single lifestyle. I’ll like to she be a girl from Texas, they aren’t even close to the girls from LA; is hard to act here, to find normal people: everyone are in the Business and trying to keep in that World and get some roles surrounding them of the right people.

LT – You have clear ideas.

M – I try, try. My friends keeps me grounded and with the feets in Earth.
